If you are currently in Iceland and have been requested to sign a document in front of a U.S. notary for the purposes of using the document in the United States, the U.S. Embassy in Reykjavik can assist. Notary services are available regardless of your nationality. You must bring a valid government issued ID (such as a passport or drivers license) at the time of your appointment.
The fee for each notarial is $50, payable in U.S. dollars or the Icelandic kronur equivalent. The $50 fee is per notary signature – for example, if you have a document that needs to be signed by a notary in four places, you will be required to pay the $50 fee four times. Please be advised of this in advance and plan accordingly. The Embassy does not accept personal checks or debit cards. Credit cards are accepted for notary fees.
•The fee per Consular seal is US$50
•Be sure to bring your passport or government issued photo I.D., along with the documents you would like notarized.
•Please look at your document and read it carefully before your appointment. If two people need to sign the same document, or if a witness is required, the names of all attendees should be included when booking your appointment and accompany you to your appointment.
NOTE: U.S. Embassy staff is not available to serve as a witness for notaries.
•DO NOT sign the document before your appointment, this includes any witness(es).
