The United States

General Information

The Information Resource Center (IRC) is a small research and reference service that can provide all sorts of  information about the United States. The resources of the IRC are intended to meet the needs of government officials, journalists, researchers, scholars and others with professional interest in the United States and contemporary American Issues.

Through use of modern technology, the IRC has access to an extensive volume of information, most of it in electronic format.

Electronic Resources:

Lexis-Nexis

A full text database of current and historic federal legislation, bill tracking, bill texts, state legislation, case law, law reviews and over 6,000 full text news sources and periodicals including the New York Times, Washington Post and AP wires.

Factiva.com

Access to over 6,000 full text periodicals as well as major news sources such as Reuters wires, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times.

First Search

First Search is a collection of more than 65 databases. Primarily bibliographic or index and abstract databases, these databases provide access to authoritative information on a wide range of subjects. Dissertation Abstracts, Public Affairs Information Service (PAIS) and Index to Legal Periodicals are some of the databases available on First Search. 

GaleNet

GaleNet provides full-text articles and abstracts on wide-ranging topics including business, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, law, literature and art, politics, science, social science, sports and technology.

Gale's Biography Resource Center has biographies of 180,000 people, full text biographical articles from over 250 periodicals and 900,000 thumbnail biographies from the complete Marquis Who's Who.

Gale´s Ready Reference Shelf incorporates 15 of the Gale Group´s general reference databases, including Encyclopedia of Associations. There are more than 320,000 directory entries for associations, research centers, publishers, print publications, databases, and television and radio stations.

Leadership Directories

Leadership Directories - the Leadership Library on the Internet - is a comprehensive database of who's who in the leadership of the United States within the federal government, state government and the business community.

Federal News Service

Provides transcripts to testimony, briefings, press conferences and congressional hearings with questions and answers. FNS also produces a daybook which details significant events in Washington as well as cabinet officer schedules.

Books in Print

Bibliographic, ordering and publisher information for books currently in print and books soon to be published. Book reviews are also available for many titles.

Encyclopedia Britannica

Provides access to the complete Encyclopedia Britannica with related Internet sites, Britannica´s Internet Guide, and Merriam-Webster´s Collegiate Dictionary.

STAT-USA

Current and historic economic and trade related statistics. Produced by the Commerce Department, statUSA is an authoritative, current source of information which includes the National Trade Data Bank, Globus (Global Business Opportunities) Country Commercial Guides, current economic releases and much more.
