U.S. Embassy Donates Books to Local School

The U.S. Embassy presented 110 English-language books to the Landakot School in Reykjavik on November 1 in honor of the school’s 110th anniversary.

Landakot is a comprehensive school for pupils between the ages of 5 and 16, formerly run by the Catholic Church of Iceland but independent since 2005.   It has long attracted international students and currently counts citizens of 25 countries among the student body.

The school follows the Icelandic national curriculum with a special emphasis on Mathematics, Icelandic and foreign languages (English, French, Spanish, German and Danish).

The books included a variety of subjects – fiction, history, biography and science – for students of all ages. " We are very grateful for this donation from the American people. The children at the Landakot School will enjoy reading them for years to come" said Fríða Regína Höskuldsdóttir, the principal of Landakot school.
The donation is part of an ongoing Embassy initiative to support the teaching of English.   We invite schools interested in the program to contact ReykjavikPublicAffairs@state.gov
