U.S. Poet Hal Sirowitz Performs for Icelandic/American Audience
September 25 – U.S. poet Hal Sirowitz read some of his humorous poems from his books “Mother Said” and “Father Said” to an audience of Icelanders and Americans at the Café Kultur Monday night.
Mr. Sirowitz captures universal truths of what parents say to their children, regardless of nationality or race, and transforms their words of advice into funny poems. He said the greatest compliment he has ever received was when a person told him, after one of his poetry readings, “I think we had the same mother!”

Mr. Sirowitz and his wife, the writer Minter Krotzer, are in Iceland this week for the International Children’s Literature Festival, sponsored by Nordic House. During his visit, Mr. Sirowitz will read his poems to groups of schoolchildren and high school students. Their trip was partially funded by a grant from the U.S. Embassy in Reykjavik.
