Former Icelandic Fulbrighter Featured on State Department Website
Ásdis Halla Bragadóttir graduated from Harvard University, JFK School
of Government in Public Policy in 2000 through a Fulbright grant.
Through
her leadership in her past and current positions, as a former Mayor of
the town of Gardabaer, Iceland and the CEO of BYKO, Ásdis Halla has
been a strong advocate of women’s participation in business in the
community.
Gardabaer is a growing town in the Reykjavík area and the sixth largest town in Iceland with a population of about 10.000.
She
currently holds the position of the CEO of BYKO, which operates the
biggest construction products stores, eight of them in all, in Iceland
with considerable activities abroad. BYKO also operates two ELKO home
appliance super-stores, two Intersport sportswear stores and
Húsgagnahollin, a furniture super-store.
Ásdís Halla has also
written numerous articles that have been published at home and abroad,
and has lectured far and wide, mainly on her area of expertise:
leadership, governance of municipalities and education. She is also
the author of a book published in 2000 that contains interviews with
five leading Icelanders.
