Charge d’Affaires Kosnett Meets with Independence Party National Youth Organization on Sudan
Leaders of the National Youth Organization of the Independence Party (SUS) visited the Embassy Friday, January 6, to present Charge d’Affaires Philip S. Kosnett with a letter urging the United States, along with other permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, to take action to stop the atrocities reportedly taking place in the Darfur region of Sudan.
Mr. Kosnett welcomed SUS Chairman Borgar Thor Einarsson, SUS Vice Chairman Bolli Thoroddsen, and SUS Secretary Teitur Einarsson; assured them of the U.S. commitment to ending violations of human rights in the region; and presented them with a copy of recent testimony (available here) to the U.S. Congress on Sudan by Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi Frazer. The Embassy is forwarding the SUS letter to the U.S. Department of State in Washington and the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York.
